This customer machine was in for general service and adjustments. I like the Alpine Blue Smith Corona typewriters. A very pleasing hue. You do not see many typewriters with Vertical Script typeface, usually older standard machines from Remington or Underwood. I like the type face, very fancy. … [Read more...]
A Blue Underwood 5 Typewriter is a delightful Gander
This is a customer machine in for general service. It has been re-painted, eons ago, a delightful powder blue finish. After cleaning and re-oiling it was a snappy delight to type. Just thought I'd share. … [Read more...]
Royal Portable P Apothecary Keyboard
This is a customers machine, and who is always on the hunt for unique opportunities. This Royal Portable P Apothecary keyboard machine does not disappoint. The machine has a nice creamy white paint color and I love the pharmacy symbols. No, this typewriter is not for sale. Eye candy only. … [Read more...]
Royal KHM from 1938 with Special Character
This is a customer machine brought in for all sorts of stuff; new feet, frame spacers, ribbon covers, bent type bars, etc. WIDE Carriage alert! A big twenty inches wide is this Royal KHM from 1938 with Special Characters. Was this an engineering machine, a map maker machine? Enquiring minds want to know. Notice the ribbon feed modification, one direction only. The typewriter came with remnants of a single use … [Read more...]
Smith-Corona with 8 cpi Type Face is a Math Wizard
This Smith Corona Sterling typewriter is a customer machine in for service. The machine looks like a special order with 8 cpi type face and a few mathematics symbols on the key board. I imagine a high school teacher writing their math quizzes every week on this machine. … [Read more...]
Eatons Prestige Typewriter in a Lovely Brown
This is a customer machine from 1957 brought in for a good de-stinking and general tune up. I like the style Eatons endowed on the Prestige typewriter (a re-branded Smith-Corona). The mildew was strong with this one. We often get in typewriters that developed odors while stored for decades. We wash as much of the machine we are able, then disinfect the insulation and give the carrying case a good cleaning. This works much of the time. It … [Read more...]

Pink Olympia SM7 was really gummed up
This delightful pink colored Olympia SM7 from the year 1964 came to the shop as a recent customer purchase. It featured the most dreadful orangish brown gooey gunk stopping up the outer type bars. This sludgy stuff is the thing of legends. So hard to remove. Fortunately, this machine can be put in the water bath sonicator to soften thing up. Then, after multiple solvent episodes, the type bars started to loosen up. In the end, we … [Read more...]
IBM Selectric 1 is a Blast from the Past
Recently, a long time customer of Mr. Montgomery stopped by with an early model Selectric machine for service. He said it hadn't seen service for a little while. Yep, it needed a bit of deferred maintenance. He was not willing to have the machine serviced as the cost would be a bit crazy. Instead he left it with me and bought a super reliable Smith-Corona wheel writer. I think he made the right choice. Just for kicks, I took the machine out of … [Read more...]
Remington Noiseless 7 Portable Dirt Bucket
You know those adorable before and after puppy pet rescue photos you see on the interwebs? This Remington Noiseless Model Seven reminded me of those. The machine came in for service filthy, bad feet, flat paper rollers, the works. It just looks like a sad puppy waiting for some love. This puppy got cleaned, new rubber and a tune up. Now it looks like the after puppy photos; so happy! … [Read more...]
