Recently, a long time customer of Mr. Montgomery stopped by with an early model Selectric machine for service. He said it hadn’t seen service for a little while. Yep, it needed a bit of deferred maintenance. He was not willing to have the machine serviced as the cost would be a bit crazy. Instead he left it with me and bought a super reliable Smith-Corona wheel writer. I think he made the right choice.

Just for kicks, I took the machine out of the shell and I found a BOMC service ticket from 1985! The service ticket even had our old location at 526 4th Street, the Soriano building. I would not normally do anything with one of the older model Selectric machines except put the old codger on the pile with the rest of the bone yard.

On the other hand, once I saw Mr. Montgomery’s scrawl I had to fix this old beast up. It has two type balls; Courier and Orator, both 10 cpi.

This machine puts great print on paper!
