We do not often get random typewriters delivered. Most are customer machines shipped in for service or a machine we glommed onto from the interwebs.
Today’s random typewriter is a gift from our favorite typewriter fan Tom Hanks. Tom, thank you for the gift. We love these 1940’s Remington typewriters.
From 1940, this Model 5 is a nice example.
Of course, it came with a bit of damage. The escapement loose dog sheared off and was in the bottom of the box. Poor Nicole at Playtone, better packing next time! Ha, Ha, good thing it came to a repair shop. Plenty of parts here.
In addition to the escapement repair, we’ll give it a good cleaning, new rubber feet, new paper rollers and a J.J. Short platen. When finished this will type sooo nice.
What is with those weird markings on the ribbon cover. Wonder how we can get those marks off?
