I have a nice Corona 4 that has this same Maroon and Gold crinkle finish that I’ve wanted to repair (Obi-wan. . . too many machines I have). This machine is a customers with the same finish and boy is she a beaut. It was recently given as a gift and you ALL know a typewriter is the perfect bobble for that one you love (hint, hint).
In good general repair this Corona needed mostly a good cleaning of the pencil eraser debris and a re-oiling of key components. The type bar faces were also encrusted with decades of ink gunk. One of the interesting cleaning duties (well, normally it is pretty boring) is clearing the rollers and platen of dirt and ink build up.
THIS machine sported ink gunk that dissolved into a pretty fuchsia color.
Look at that fantastic Deco gold wrinkle paint. Corona’s of this age really sported some nice paint. For those who want to clean these up, be careful of the paint. It is quite fragile.
