This delightful pink colored Olympia SM7 from the year 1964 came to the shop as a recent customer purchase. It featured the most dreadful orangish brown gooey gunk stopping up the outer type bars.
This sludgy stuff is the thing of legends. So hard to remove. Fortunately, this machine can be put in the water bath sonicator to soften thing up. Then, after multiple solvent episodes, the type bars started to loosen up.
In the end, we had to remove the outer type bars from the segment as the goo had settled in pretty deep. Once everything was back together we reformed the bent type bars, links and type bar rest.
Always feels good getting one of these typing again.
