A customer stopped by with three typewriters, one to tune up and the others to trade. I don’t really like taking trades for service as I rarely come out ahead. I’m just not that smart. On the other hand, this gave me the opportunity to work on a unique machine and soon I’ll explain why.
The trades were the All-American previously featured and a Remington that is a parts machine.
The Smith-Corona Silent-Super that needed servicing has very unique type face for a 1959 vintage (or any vintage for that matter). I see Pica 10 and Elite 12 every single day and this item has
ORATOR type face that is 3/16 inch high. NOW THAT IS A LARGE TYPE FACE! Compare it to one of the type face sheets we keep in the shop.
This looks like a factory special order, and I’m asking my collector compatriots to help.
The line space mechanism is preset for the spacing, and the ribbon vibrator has only stencil and black settings.
