Heidi sent me two typewriters to refurbish and this is the Rheinmetall Portable. Just shipped the Rheinmetall back to Switzerland and Heidi yesterday.
It arrived with a bit of shipping damage when the old rubber feet disintegrated during transit and the typewriter popped off its base. Poor thing bounced around inside the case so much it looked like a party complete with streamers! No worries, as this little gem is a tank in disguise. The spring drum was all bent apart and needed some love to get it turning again plus other bent parts.
All new rubber all around; new platen, new feet, new paper rollers. The carriage is held on the frame with two levers and made it easy to remove and get at the internal repairs.
We gave the typewriter a good clean up and a whole bunch of adjustments. This little typer has a delightful snappy action and puts crisp print on the page.
Carriage number 189758, frame number 14848.
