This is a customer’s typewriter in for service. The typewriter came in with sticking type bars and was a bit dirty. Also needed a new platen, frame spacers and some cushy feet for the bottom of the case. After a good cleaning, the left side shift lever was a bit slow. A little oil did not improve its attitude, so I slid the fulcrum wires out of the way and popped the lever out of the machine. Well what do I find, but RUST! Damn that stuff.
After removing the rust and honing the pivot points the shift behaved just fine. A new ribbon and this Durabel types like candy.
