I like the Groma Kolibri portable machines and it is no wonder many of my collector customers have it on their wish list. This one arrived with a completely jammed escapement and a small mystery part in the bottom of the typewriter. Remember, if your machine arrives damaged, contact the seller right away and take photos if there is obvious physical damage. Often you will get your money refunded. The machine looked to be in otherwise good … [Read more...]
Underwood Number 3 from 1923
I always thought it a bit funny whenever Mr. Montgomery got in a customer machine that was so decrepit he laughed. Seriously though, every once in a while we'd get in a machine and the only thing Mr. Montgomery would put on the service ticket was NEEDS EVERYTHING. Well, that is what recently walked into the shop with this Underwood number 3 typewriter. Stored in a garage, then a shed, brought in just naked with dirt. Rust, carriage … [Read more...]

Remington Model 5 Streamliner is Really Sweet
This Remington Model 5 Streamliner from 1937 is from a Spokane area customer. The machine was already in very good shape, yet with age all the rubber was pretty hard. I keep in stock platens for the more common portables so I had one on the shelf. This little guy received a new platen, new paper rollers, new feet, new draw cord and a replacement right side paper holder that was broken. Also the machine received a good cleaning, … [Read more...]

Royal 10 is very pretty
I don't normally share what I feel is the mundane. Today is an exception as this bit of boredom is some sweet eye candy. This customers Royal 10 typewriter from the year 1929 came to the shop a BIG DUST BUNNY. This gal had so much crap on and in it I had to vacuum it out twice even before a good cleaning. These Royal machines are remarkable in the ability to withstand decades of sitting around and bouncing right back into a productive … [Read more...]
Mr. Montgomery – My Little Sister Joyce
Today's topic are musings about Bob Montgomery's sister Joyce. I only knew Bob’s sister, Joyce, over the phone. Joyce lived in Bremerton with Bob and their mother then Joyce moved to Lakeport, California in the 1950's after working at the typewriter shop with Bob. When I first started working at the shop I'd chat over the phone with Joyce not knowing at first she was Bob's sister. Joyce often would call the shop late in the night as Bob used to … [Read more...]
Typewriters for Under $130
I've had many requests to add a "discount" sales area to the shop. Well, here it is! If an item has a pink tag, the machine is less than $130. These items are as is with no warranty. Most are electronic wheel writers or standard size desk top typewriters. Some are donations I don't have time to fix up. When you donate a typewriter, this helps spread the joy. Many donated machines either work OK or just need a little love. A little sweat equity … [Read more...]
A Nice Blue Royal Portable P Typewriter from 1930
