Royal Administrator Typewriter is Jam’n

April 9, 2022 By Paul

This lovely Royal McBee Administrator typewriter is a customers machine and came in as the paper tray was jammed, the bell clapper not working plus some cleaning. After cleaning, the tab set was a bit balky. Looks like a bit-o-rust on the back rail was holding the tabulator pins in place. After another detailed cleaning, they all worked as planned, The jammed paper tray was a few previously bent parts. So after a bit of forming, the paper … [Read more...]

Triumph Durabel Portable Typewriter in for Service

March 26, 2022 By Paul

This is a customer's typewriter in for service. The typewriter came in with sticking type bars and was a bit dirty. Also needed a new platen, frame spacers and some cushy feet for the bottom of the case. After a good cleaning, the left side shift lever was a bit slow. A little oil did not improve its attitude, so I slid the fulcrum wires out of the way and popped the lever out of the machine. Well what do I find, but RUST! Damn that stuff. … [Read more...]

It arrived with a bit of shipping damage when the old rubber feet disintegrated during transit and the typewriter popped off its base. Poor thing bounced around inside the case so much it looked like a party complete with streamers! No worries, as this little gem is a tank in disguise. The … [Read more...]

SALT LAKE CITY – WARTIME

January 25, 2022 By Paul

Robert Montgomery, age 92 reparing vintage typewriter

Occasionally, I publish some of Mr. Montgomery's musings edited only for grammatical errors. Since it is Mr. Montgomery's birthday this week, here is another of his reflections of earlier times. SALT LAKE CITY - WARTIME I first arrived in Salt Lake City (Nov 1942) as a new draftee for the US Army, and was sent up to Fort Douglas. Fort Douglas is just over the city limit fence to Salt Lake City. I was introduced to the “old army routine”, … [Read more...]

Alpine Blue Smith Corona with Vertical Script Typeface

January 24, 2022 By Paul

This customer machine was in for general service and adjustments. I like the Alpine Blue Smith Corona typewriters. A very pleasing hue. You do not see many typewriters with Vertical Script typeface, usually older standard machines from Remington or Underwood. I like the type face, very fancy. … [Read more...]
